Jan Nolta
Jan A. Nolta is the Director of the Stem Cell Program at the UC Davis School of Medicine and Institute for Regenerative Cures. She is the Scientific Director for the UC Davis Good Manufacturing Practice and Editor of Stem Cells. With over 25 years of experience in the field, Nolta is widely known for her innovative work with stem cell-related regenerative medicine. The Nolta lab focuses heavily on translational medicine, with a bench to bedside approach that brings treatments from discovery in the lab to clinical trials. Nolta’s current research focuses on treatment of Huntington's disease using mesenchymal stem cells. ==Personal Life and Education== A Northern California native, Jan currently resides in Carmichael California on a third of an acre lot where she enjoys her time with husband Mark Grundmann and three dogs. Though she originally aspired to be a veterinarian, SAC State biology professor, Laurel Heffernan, noticed Nolta’s passion for lab work and exposed her to the possibility of becoming a full-time scientist. Nolta received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from California State University Sacramento in 1984, took master’s classes at UC Davis, and later earned a Ph.D. in molecular microbiology from the University of Southern California. She was an assistant professor at the USC School of Medicine before becoming an associate professor at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
